The Yamaha 875EX II is definitely one of if not the finest alto saxophone made whether Wally argues such or not. The only disagreement I have with Wally is the quality of the V1 neck. But Wally did a damn fine job of putting an excellent video together.The rails might be just slightly thicker on the S+, but I didn't notice any change in the feel of the piece. The only big difference I can see between the S and S+ is the chamber. As far as sound, the S+ definitely has more body in the tone to my ears, mainly in the upper range and altissimo. Play-ability felt just as good as my 6S.However a good mouthpiece that gives you that warm soft edge tone instantly can help a lot ofcourse. A Brilhart Ebolin often gets me real close. However I had to try quiet a number of them to find the right one that just has it.
